Fort Lauderdale, Florida – On Thursday July 16, 2020, stunned motorists phoned in a call to 911 that would leave many stunned. Although probably being fairly common in Australia, its high unusual to see a Kangaroo hoping down the streets of Fort Lauderdale. This is where the story of Anthony Macias and Jack Jack the Kangaroo began.

The kangaroo was spotted that day on 1600 block of North Andrews Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. The kangaroo had escaped the home of Macias and began hopping down the street.

The call to 911 about Jack Jack the Kangaroo July 16, 2020

When Fort Lauderdale Police arrived they were able to capture the animal without incident. A statement from police read:

“He’s very friendly. We were able to get a rope around his neck and get him in the back of the car.”

From there the kangaroo was transferred to a permitted facility until FWC locates a permanent placement location for the kangaroo named Jack Jack.

Anthony Macias. 24, faces three misdemeanor counts including failure to pay a fee to obtain a permit to possess captive wildlife, failure to house Class 1 wildlife in a safe manner, which resulted in an escape, and unlawful possession of wildlife, whether native to Florida or not, without a permit from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC).

He has since entered a plea of not guilty this week.

Anthony Macias has organized a Go Fund Me page to help free his beloved kangaroo Jack Jack.
