Ft. Lauderdale, Florida– Colorado State University weather researches recently released a statement saying that there is a 61% chance that Florida will be hit by a hurricane this upcoming season.
In Friday’s released forecast, researchers estimated there will be 16 named storms this season, eight hurricanes and three “major” hurricanes with at least Category 3 winds of 111 mph, during the season.
There has already been 5 named storms in the Atlantic Ocean thus far, including a tropical storm “Emily” which hit Florida last week.
The historical percentage is 51%. Researchers attribute the percentage rise to very warm waters this season.
