Hurricane Irma is on its way, Broward County to close bridges by 8pm Friday, mandatory evacuations have begun
Broward County, Florida – Broward County evacuations are underway as of 12pm Thursday. Broward County is bracing for a direct impact from Hurricane Irma, as it continues its path towards South Florida.
Broward County bridges to the barrier islands will be locked down no later than 8 p.m. Friday, Mayor Barbara Sharief announced during an 11:30 a.m. news conference at the county’s Emergency Operations Center.
High winds are expected to arrive off the coast of Florida Saturday morning, increasing to hurricane strength winds throughout Monday.
Bridges may be locked down earlier, depending on conditions. Bridges over the New River at Southeast Third Avenue, Andrews Avenue and at Southwest Fourth/Southwest Seventh avenues in Fort Lauderdale will also be locked down.
