Food for the Poor began packing up donations received, to the islands that were hardest hit by Hurricane Irma, and Maria.
Coconut Creek, Florida – Islands such as Puerto Rico and The Virgin Islands, where hit extremely hard by Hurricane Irma, almost completely shattering normal day to day life. Parts of those island will be without power for weeks more, if not months.
Monday three 40 foot containers were loaded up by the organization Food for the Poor, who will ship them to the Caribbean Islands that need them most.
None of those islands are wealthy enough or prepared for a devastation of this magnitude,” Food for the Poor’s executive director Angel Aloma said. “First Irma came by and started it, then Maria came by and finished it.”
Three containers were sent to the port Monday morning, and from there will sail to Dominica, Antigua and St. Lucia.
It’s all the stuff they would need immediately — clean water for drinking, canned foods, blankets, hygiene items, tarps, buckets to start the clean-up process,” Aloma said.
