After years of delays, first steps toward new fire station in Fort Lauderdale is happening
Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Fire Station 54 is getting a renovation. Station 54 will be receiving a new building after 12 years of waiting. The new building will be built to last 50 years like the previous station. The station will be able to withstand a category 5 hurricane. It will be energy efficient.
The station is located off Oakland Park Blvd. The $3.8 million dollar building had to be significantly redesigned.
The Fort Lauderdale Fire Department is one of the busiest in the state. It responded to more than 53,000 calls last year.
The station is located in a strategic location, officials say, in the center of a community.
