Fort Lauderdale is scamed out of 1.2 million dollars in a recent phishing scam involving a prominent developer and the city.
Last month the city of Fort Lauderdale received a bill from Moss construction, who is currently building a new police station. Moss construction being an extreamly reputable builder, operates in more states than just Florida.
In this scam, bad actors took advantage of the construction companies good name. The scammers where able to back up the invoice with documents, paperwork etc. The scam was incredibly well done and no one caught the bumble until last month.
“They found a few pieces of common information, standardly found in an online search, and used it as part of their attempted phishing scam,” the spokesperson said.
The incident is under investigation, according to Fort Lauderdale police.
