A teenager is fighting for his life after being shot in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood Monday evening. Police say they received reports of gunfire around 7:25 p.m. in the 1500 block of Northwest 8th Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was immediately rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

What We Know So Far

Police have not released many details about the shooting, and as of now, no suspects have been named. A relative of the victim told NBC6 that the teen is his cousin, but no further information has been made public about the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Authorities have not said whether this was a targeted attack or if the suspect fled on foot or by vehicle. At this time, no arrests have been made.

Growing Concerns Over Youth Gun Violence

This latest shooting has added to growing concerns over gun violence in South Florida, especially incidents involving young victims. Local leaders have been calling for more community outreach and intervention programs to prevent violent crime among teens.

Residents in the area are being urged to remain vigilant, and anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Fort Lauderdale Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through Broward Crime Stoppers.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
