Fort Lauderdale, Florida – With Phase 2 re-openings in full swing this week, most bars and nightclubs are still closed due to Covid-19 restrictions on nightlife. Owners of these venues held protests in Miami’s Wynwood District as well as Fort Lauderdale, demanding a call to action to the strict restrictions on their businesses.
Last week Gov. Ron DeSantis declared that bars and nightclubs would be able to reopen at 50% capacity along with Phase 2, bars and nightclubs still remain closed. On Monday an outcry from these business owners was heard. The decision to remain closed comes as Miami and Fort Lauderdale have restrictive measures in place for these venues, despite the Governor’s okay to reopen.
Protests across the city call for the cities to “keep paying them to stay closed, or let them reopen so they can get back to work” in a statement from Jose Estrada of Centro Wynwood.
Restuarants across Broward County and Miami Dade are already allowed to reopen at 50% capacity. Officials stated that bars may be able to open soon, however more than likely the bar will remain closed only allowing for drinks to be served at tables.
Also this week Fort Lauderdale’s curfew was pushed back from 10pm to 11pm. A welcome change for most residents.
